Our second mountain

This was a definite jump up in skill level from our first hill.  This is a mountain about 15 minutes from our house yet still on base.  The base is so remote that we can travel 15-20 minutes and we are still on base.  Desert for as far as the eye can see.  We don't mind.  Desert means sand and sand means endless hours of fun for kids.  What kid wouldn't love to live in a sandbox?

This mountain was maybe 1000 feet.  Which really might just be a hill but to a 2 year old it's a mountain.  We pulled up to the mountain and realized we wouldn't be hiking on a trail.  The kids handled it well.  They slipped and fell a few times but always got back up and kept climbing.  There were even points in the trail when I thought it was hard to keep from slipping.  Dane was able to do the whole hike on his own.   After reaching the top and hiking halfway down Eliza decided that was enough for her.  Matt and I took turns carrying Emma and Eliza.

As we were driving away from the mountain Matt said, "Isn't it kind of amazing that these little two/three year olds pull up to this mountain and mom and dad tell them we are going to climb it and they just say OK.  I suppose they figure as long as mom and dad are with them then I guess it will be OK."  Its true they never second guessed what we were doing, why we were doing it, how we would get to the top.  They just trust that if we are there they will be fine.

Very true.  These little kids have so much trust in us to keep them safe.  Not too get too churchy- but how often is that the case with our Heavenly Father...or should it be the case.  We are navigating our way through this life and sometimes we probably come to mountains and wonder "why."  Why this trial, why this experience?  How often do we just trust and know that if our Heavenly Father is with us we will be fine?  So we climb the mountain and trust.
