San Diego

We recently took a trip to San Diego.  Being in the military definitely has it's downsides but let's be honest, it has some serious perks!  One of those perks is Coronado Island.  There is a great Base called North Island with beach cottages!  Beautiful cottages with two bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens, living room and just a easy stroll to the beach.  We have been looking forward to this trip since Isabel was born. It didn't disappoint.   

While we were in San Diego we took a tour of the Midway, a Navy Aircraft Carrier.  It was amazing.  The  kids loved it as they navigated through the tiny hallways, small rooms, long hallways and steep staircases.   

 Sea World!  The kids enjoyed the shows and the shark exhibit.  I have to be honest though, this will be a much cooler place when the kids are a few years older.  We were able to see the killer whales, the sea lions, and the dolphins.  I suppose we did fairly well for four kids- four and under.  We spent the most time at the play area and water pad.  Could have called that!  

 The kids loved these air blobs.  We spent a good hour just letting them play!  Dolphins? Sharks? Killer whales anyone??? Nah, we're good.

This is the touch tank.  It was the last thing to see before we left the park.  We spent a long time touching little sharks, sting rays, and other sea creatures.  Eliza was in heaven.  She is our lover of all things creepy and crawly.  The other day we found a dead mouse in our garage (yuck) leave it to Eliza to pick that thing up with a stick and throw it away.  No need to wait for Matt to take care of it- Lizee will do it!

The San Diego Zoo!  It was HOT!  Poor little Isabel was a sport. This zoo is way to big for it's own good.  I felt like I couldn't get away from the monkeys and at every turn there was a new aviary.  Okay, it was a really great zoo….just a really huge zoo!  If you asked Dane about his experience he would tell you he saw two monkeys play with their poop.  Yep, the memory that he will hold dear for the rest of his life.

 The kids really enjoyed the "sky ride."  It is a 5 minute ride in a little cable car that takes you over the  zoo.  The kids clearly could not read the sign that said, "stay seated.  That cable care was rocking nearly the whole time.  I kept telling them it was going to plummet.  No one ever listens! :)  

 A visit to the zoo is not complete until you feed the goats!

We love our little babies but it's kind of fun to have kids that are a bit older and a bit easier to take places.  We also spent each morning playing on the beach, chasing waves, and jumping in the pool. Great vacation!
